ROCKVILLE, MD (June 13, 2001)—20/20 GeneSystems, Inc. (20/20), developer of a revolutionary Proteome Identification Kit for pharmaceutical research and laboratory medicine, and Bear Code LLC, a provider of software for bioinformatics, data modeling and 3-D visualization, have allied to develop software to help researchers identify families of proteins in biological samples.
20/20’s proprietary layered membrane platform is among the first techniques for the parallel detection of groups of proteins in tumors and other diseased tissues. It functions much like carbon paper to create copies of the protein content of the tissue being analyzed and is significantly faster, more comprehensive and less expensive than existing approaches. The software being developed with Bear Code will permit images from the membranes to be combined and analyzed to yield differential expression profiles of the samples.
“By combining our protein analysis tools with Bear Codes’ software, 20/20 will be able to provide researchers with powerful applications that will speed scientific research in cancer and neurological and inflammatory disorders, as well as in toxicology and plant biology,” said Jonathan Cohen, president of 20/20 GeneSystems.
The software is targeted toward major pharmaceutical companies, medical centers and federal research laboratories. Beta versions of the product are expected in the third quarter of this year.
